Would you like to work on your own schedule and boost your earnings? Lalamove makes it possible!

But first things first: To work as a self-employed driver in Germany, you’ll need to register a trade (Gewerbeanmeldung). That might sound complicated and bureaucratic at first, but it’s actually easier than you think.

In this article, we’ll guide you through the simple steps to register a trade and get started as a Lalamove delivery partner.

How to register a trade in Berlin

Have your documents ready

  • Valid ID card or passport (with a current Meldebescheinigung)
  • Valid residence permit (for non-EU citizens)

That's it! As a sole proprietor, you do not need a Commercial Register extract (Handelsregisterauszug) or any other complex corporate documents.

Register online or in person

  • The fastest option (online): You can easily register a trade online via the Service Portal Berlin. To do so, you’ll need an ID card with an activated online identification function (eID) and either a card reader or a smartphone with the “AusweisApp2” app.
  • The classic way (in person): You can book an appointment at your local trade office (Gewerbeamt), which is usually part of the public order office (Ordnungsamt) in your district (e.g., Mitte, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf).

Fees

  • 15 € for online registration
  • 26 € for in-person registration as a sole proprietor (Einzelgewerbe)

Fill out the form

Whether you register online or in person, you’ll need to complete the GewA 1 form. The most important section is “Angemeldete Tätigkeit” (registered activity). This registration is mandatory because any independent activity carried out for profit is considered a trade (Gewerbe) in Germany.

Our tip: Be precise, but not overly specific. Good descriptions for Lalamove delivery partners are:

  • Kurierdienstleistungen
  • Transportdienstleistungen bis 3,5t (if you drive a transporter)
  • Kleintransporte
